Johnny took this photograph of my foster puppy and I last night. This morning Paddy was picked up to go and meet a potential family. He may or may not be returning. The most common comment we've heard throughout this experience was "I would never be able to foster - it would be way too hard to give them up!" Paddy was our first foster puppy, but he will not be our last. The whole experience has been amazing for our own Lyra girl and so rewarding for us. It's not easy to say goodbye. The job of a foster family is to shower their pup with love and care. It couldn't be easy to say goodbye and to love a dog at the same time. But the knowledge that this little man is going to change the life of a child and their family makes everything worth it. I have never fostered for an animal rescue (Paddy is from Dogs for Kids with Disabilities) but I expect that the knowledge that you have saved an animal's life by fostering is equally rewarding. Later tonight we will all declare our New Years Resolutions. You might decide that it is time to lose 5kgs, take up jogging, go to bed at a reasonable hour, watch less TV. But what if instead, your resolution for 2014 was to give fostering a go? You don't need to sign up to a lifetime of fostering. Foster only one dog or cat or even a rabbit and you will have changed someone's life. x Caitlin
